Sydney New Year's Eve 2006–07
historyThe Sydney New Year's Eve Fireworks 2006–07 was the 12th New Year's Eve event held on New Year's Eve 2006 over Sydney Harbour, centering at the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The theme was "A Diamond Night in Emerald City", to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The TV coverage was hosted by Big Brother Australia host Gretel Killeen and Neighbours star (and current Dancing with the Stars host) Daniel MacPherson. It was also Network Ten's first ever broadcast of the event.

In its inaugural broadcast of the show, broadcaster Network Ten received a large number of complaints over its 2006 Sydney New Year's Eve coverage. Most of the criticism was left for Matthew Newton, son of Channel Nine star Bert Newton, who was simulating oral sex with John Foreman on the piano with his penis on the The Big Night In with John Foreman. There were calls for the network to lose the rights to the broadcast and give them back to the Nine Network, who had them from 1995–96 to 2005–06. It was dubbed "the worst NYE ever".
