Sahuarita High School
historySahuarita High School ("SHS") is located in Sahuarita, Arizona, and is served by the Sahuarita Unified School District.
The campus consists of a student services/media center, three two-story classroom buildings, an art and music building, carpentry shop, and an auto shop/technology building. »highbeam.com The school colors are royal blue and Nevada Gold and the mascot is a Mustang. The school's current principal, Dr. Mark Niesh, began in 2007. SHS has been recognized for its highly performing cheer squad which placed first at a National Cheerleaders Association competition in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Also in 2008, the Sahuarita Financial Literacy team won the University of Arizona annual "Jr. Duel in the Desert." They beat out Sunnyside High School as well as Pueblo High School, taking home $500. The team consisted of Mathew Rodriguez, Jaime Hawatmeh, Jimmy Lara, Robert DeLeon, Philip Aiken, Marriam Hawatmeh, Maritza Acosta, Nathan Knudson, Salina Joos, and Brian Smedley.
One of Sahuarita High's prized possessions is its NJROTC unit led by Commander Battle and Gunnery Sgt. Martinez. Not only is it a prize at the school but also in the local community. This unit has done many good deeds for all surrounding people especially veterans in the retirement community south of Sahuarita(Green Valley). Academically this unit is in the nation's top 1% out of other "Navy Jr." units which has brought the small school to a lot of attention from other states.
