John H. Guyer High School

history

John H. Guyer High School is a high school established in 2004 in the southern Denton, Texas. It is accredited by the Denton Independent School District Association in the upper-middle class suburban district of southern Denton County. At about 1,700 students and expanding.

In football when Guyer plays its district rival Denton Ryan High School, it is called the Crosstown Rivalry. When Guyer plays its district rival Denton High School, it is called the Backyard Brawl.

The school's namesake was a former principal at Denton High School who later served as assistant to the Denton ISD Superintendent.

After a recent influx of students, eight portable Classrooms have been added to the original school.

Guyer is currently in the semifinals of the Texas state championship, and plans to play Longview HS at Texas Stadium December 13 at 8 p.m. This is Guyer's first playoff appearance after the last two years going 1-19.
